Words to remember – 1

Washington is full of memorials and visiting them is one of the highlights of any visit to this beautiful city. Friends took me to two special memorials on Saturday.  What makes them different – the words!  To make meaning of these memorials you need to be able to read (or have read to you) the powerful statements depicted on them.

Franklin D Roosevelt had four terms of government, each  term of which is represented in an outdoor room. The statutes and text illustrate FDRs’s role in fighting the Great Depression and leading the USA into WWII. Eleanor Roosevelt was an integral part of his office – she was the public face of the presidency when he got ill, was his liberal conscience and became the first ambassador to the UN.
