Washington is full of memorials and visiting them is one of the highlights of any visit to this beautiful city. Friends took me to two special memorials on Saturday. The statutes and text illustrate FDRs’s role in fighting the Great Depression and leading the USA into WWII. Eleanor Roosevelt was an integral part of his office – she was the public face of the presidency when he got ill, was his liberal conscience and became the first ambassador to the UN.
